The Subtle Mind/ Unit 5

1. Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.

I had a more positive experience with the subtle mind exercise, than with the Loving Kindness.  I think the difference is that the subtle exercise is a more intimate journey through your mind and as a result gives you a clear sense of calmness.  The Loving Kindness you had to bring other people into your mind, so thought process was not necessarily something you could just let flow.

2.  Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.

There is an absolute interconnectedness with the mental and physical wellness.  Anyone who has exercised can testify that exercising has not only helped them reach their physical fitness goals but has also helped them reach a sense of balance within their mind.  I can personally say that I exercise more for the benefit of the mind than the physical part, to me that is just a bonus.  My reasoning behind this is that our thoughts create our reality therefore when I exercise I release all those negative thoughts that in the future can affect my health like we all know what happens in the mind can manifest physically, so why not work out and release it.

  1. Claudia, I have never really heard anyone say that they exercise more for the mental part than the physical. After taking this class and learning about the mind, it definitely makes sense to have that as a goal though. I personally like reaching my goals I have set out for each workout.

  2. Hello Claudia,
I agree that there is a interconnectedness with mental and physical wellness when it comes to exercise. I, on the other hand, exercise for the psychical benefits and the mental benefits are a bonus. I just love how exercise brings so much to table and how it is different for each individual. Mentally speaking, I do exercise when I am stressed out because it calms me down and gives me a chance to focus on aspects of my life other than the stressful situation at hand. I would like to try yoga because I have heard of all the great benefits.
    Keep up the good posts:)!

  3. Claudia--
Like James, I have never heard of anyone exercising for the mental benefits. But, I get it! It really is a good idea, and exercising is such a good stress reliever too. Exercise is just all around good for us! I exercise mainly for the physical benefits, however, when I skip a few days I can tell not only physically, but mentally as well. Exercise clears my mind of negative thought and mental chatter, it helps me sleep better, and my mood and mindset is better.

  4. I totally agree with you about exercising for the mental benefits more than the physical benefits. I feel more relaxed and focused after I workout so I like to do it first thing in the morning and right before I start my homework too. It's a good way to settle my frustrations and calm my anger as well. I love the physical benefits of exercise but it truly is the mental part of it that keeps me going.
